New Release: Greywacke Wild Sauvignon

It's difficult to put into words just how excited we are to witness the arrival of a new vintage of Kevin Judd's signature wine each year.

Consistently one of New Zealand's most singular and coveted sauvignon blancs – and arguably Marlborough's most revered – Greywacke Wild Sauvignon's reputation precedes it every vintage. At once, it's both a winemaker's wine, showcasing Judd's knack for balance, accuracy and intrigue, and a celebration of Marlborough's distinctive terroir.

Vintage 2022 was exceptional, following the abnormal weather and a handful of frost events of 2021. The growing season kicked off with a warm but wet spring, followed by healthy flowering and ideal vineyard growth. The only minor setback was a cyclonic (Dovi) rain event in February, however, this coincided with cooler temperatures and southerly breezes, minimising disease pressure, according to Kevin. Always a lesson in both approachability and longevity, we're thrilled to see this vintage of Wild hit the market.

Greywacke Wild Sauvignon 2022

Marlborough, NZ

Harvested both by machine and hand (depending on the time of day), from vineyards in Woodbourne, Renwick and Rapaura.

Lightly pressed and cold-settled prior to racking into mostly used French oak barriques. Spontaneous wild yeast fermentation with occasional lees stirring; two-thirds MLF. Maturation in tank on lees for six months. Bottled September 2023.

Intensely aromatic with tropical fruits and white floral notes underpinned by fresh herbs. The palate is savoury, succulent and textural, with bright acidity and a touch of saltiness driving to an exceptionally long finish.
