Emmalene is the story of two families from the Adelaide Hills. The growers (the Bartsch family), and the makers (the Bulman family). Emmalene is a common name in the ancestry of both families, binding the families to the wines they produce together. The meaning of Emmalene: a peaceful home, is noted ironically whenever the families are together. Tim Bartsch (Bartschy) and Mark Bulman (Bulman) met in high school in the Adelaide Hills and quickly became friends, they continued studying with each other at university but it was here they temporarily parted ways. Bartschy went on to prosper growing grapes from esteemed Adelaide Hills vineyards while Bulman went to work in wineries around Australia and the world, quickly gaining accolades and recognition for his skills in making wine.

Bartschy met Narelle who have three children together; Harriet, Victor and Asa. While Bulman met Lucy who have two children Sebastian and Angus. Both families have been and will always be tangled in the support and effort required to grow and make great wine from the Adelaide Hills. The Emmalene vision is simple. To grow fruit that best reflects the site, and to make wine that best reflects the fruit.

SUSTAINABILITY.

Emmalene vineyards are all grown and owned by the Bartsch family in the Adelaide Hills from one of four sites; Echunga, Lenswood, Lobethal and Forreston. All vineyards are farmed with sustainability front of mind. The vineyards are carbon neutral utilising solar, organic compost, permanent cover crops and winter grazing to minimise their impact on the environment from which they grow. The wines are made naturally with minimal additions and filtration.

All Emmalene vineyards are certified by Sustainable Winegrowing Australia and all of the wines are vegan friendly.
