THE WINES

The cornerstone of Mazi is their incredible value single vineyard Grenache Rose from Blewitt Springs in McLaren Vale. The pinnacle of production at Mazi is the extremely limited and aspirational barrel fermented hand picked Rose made from Mourvedre and Grenache with the 2021 to be available from 1st September, and 2021 will see the debut of some very exciting new intimate projects around Cinsault Rose and what we believe to be the only and first example of the Greek varietal, Mavrodaphne in Australia in tiny quantities where demand is sure to exceed supply.

SUSTAINABILITY

The fruit for our wines are all sourced from family owned, generational vineyards from McLaren Vale - some up to 70 years old. These are old school, natural farmers who value soil and vine health and know how to grow amazing grapes with minimal intervention. Every wine from Mazi is 100% vegan friendly, with no use of any animal derived fining agents or other such products in making our wine.

MAZI MEANS 'TOGETHER'

Lifelong friends Toby Porter and Alex Katsaros always talked about making wine together. Alex has spent over a decade working with alternative varieties in Australia and abroad, Toby has been a winemaker at internationally acclaimed d’Arenberg for over 15 years.

In 2016 the dream came to fruition, with the release of their first Rosé under the Mazi label.

THE WINEMAKING

Grapes are sourced from McLaren Vale, handpicked, crushed and immediately pressed to extract the optimum level of flavour and tannin. The wine displays a pale pink tone, derived from a minimal period of juice on skins prior to pressing. Following a cool fermentation in stainless steel vat, the wine is then bottled. The Mazi Limited Release Rosé spends five months in old French oak casks to impart subtle oak texture and build palate complexity.
